January 21, 2013 marked a big change in the presidential fleet. The inauguration day revealed new license plates on all of the Obama’s limousines. All of the presidential vehicles now have a standard plate of the Columbia District with the infamous phrase “Taxation without representation” above the plate numbers. The limo plates were changed as a sign of solidarity, and first seen on Monday at the presidential inauguration.
According to the White House, “For past four years Obama has seen working families of DC pay taxes without a right to vote in congress. President agrees it is not fare for the families, and decides to use the same plates to support the Washington people”. Many cheer for the new Obama limousines license plates, saying it is a good sign of support and protest.
First “Taxation without representation” license plates were placed nearly 13 years ago. Since then, all the civil vehicles had the slogan on their license plates. None of the governmental vehicles and especially presidential vehicles have adopted the plates since. Obama’s presidential limousine nicknamed “The Beast” is the first limousine to use such plates. The use of such plates is limited to 4 years of the term, since it is not clear if the next president will want such a slogan on his/her car.
“The license is just the beginning” a lot of political analysts say. “It is about time Obama redeem himself, and it is a good move on his part to the future changes”. If you like this post, please like them on Facebook!
